Command: “Find It”
Training Steps:
- Start Simple: Hide a treat in one of your hands. Show both hands to your dog and say “Find it.” Let your dog choose a hand. Reward them when they choose correctly.
- Hide Treats Nearby: Place treats in easy-to-find locations like under a towel or behind a door while your dog watches. Give the command and reward them for finding the treats.
- Increase Difficulty: Hide treats in more challenging places where your dog has to use their sense of smell to find them. Don’t let them see where you put the treats.
- Expand the Search Area: Start hiding treats in different rooms or outside in the yard. Use the command and encourage your dog as they search.
